Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Explained

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has replaced Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for working-age claimants in the UK. PIP consists of two components:

  • Daily living component – for help with everyday life
  • Mobility component – for assistance with getting around

You can receive either one of these components or both, depending on your needs. Points are awarded for each relevant descriptor, and your overall score determines the rate for daily living and/or mobility.

Motability

If you qualify for the enhanced rate of mobility, you may be eligible to apply for a Motability vehicle. Motability is a charity that helps people with disabilities access vehicles to aid their mobility. The PIP enhanced rate mobility component qualifies you for this benefit.

Adapted vehicles are available at an extra cost, and Motability adaptation grants may be available. We can advise you on how to apply for these grants to help cover adaptation costs.
